I tend to reject the idea of universal closet staples - I spent years with several "staples" in my closet that I never wore; they just took up space because they weren't staples for my style - but one thing that I do believe is a fairly universal staple is a basic white tee. I recently picked upthis one, and have been having so much fun styling it. I love the tone on tone beaded detail, and the slightly oversized/boxy fit. It makes it so versatile. Below are 5 ways I styled it earlier this week! I hope it gives you some new inspiration for how to shop and style your closet.
I found this fun polka dot jumpsuit a while back, but couldn't bring myself to spend the $160 it cost. Then, last week, it went down to under $35. I pulled the trigger, and couldn't be happier I did! The back is open and laces up, which is such a fun detail. It also allows you to make it fit your upper body perfectly - a major plus for women with tiny tatas like me ;)
I styled it three ways, but I know there will be many more this summer as things relax and we're able to go out more.
I love adding pieces to my wardrobe that expand what I already have. What I mean by that is I like to add something that, by adding it, I get TONS of new outfits. This little linen shift dressdid just that. I picked it for a few reasons:
First, I love linen. It's lightweight, which is perfect for our warm springs and summers here in So Cal, and linen always reads as expensive (no matter how affordable it was! This little number was only $35!).
Second, linen is so versatile. It works for every day wear, dressed up, and even on vacation (who doesn't want linen when you're traveling?!).
Third, the length. I love that it's not a midi dress (I have so many of those), but it also isn't a mini. I have enough coverage for my daily activities (hello chasing a three year old) while still showing some leg ;)
Finally, it's black (but it comes in a gorgeous rust color, too). I know, I know, I know. I have so much black in my closet already. But let's be honest: that's what makes it so versatile. It pairs with ALL my accessories.
