STYLE | 3 THINGS TO WEAR INSTEAD OF COMBAT BOOTS

I wanted to love them so much. I pinned combat boot outfits for weeks. I watched reel after reel of my favorite edgy fashion icon styling them on Instagram. I talked about it almost nightly with my husband to see if I was settled on the idea (Thanks Gabe!). I scrolled through hundreds of variations on the style, before settling on one and pulling the trigger.

Then I spent 3 days trying to wear them. And each time I did, they just didn't feel like me. Hear me when I say this: I firmly believe you can pull off ANY TREND you want to - the question is, do you feel like yourself?

I have to tell you, I was not comfortable in those combat boot looks. They just weren't me. I had to try too hard to style them, and anything that isn't effortless and simple is a big no for me (I know myself - stress getting dressed = well... let's just say it's not pretty). At the end of the day, the truth is my style is { Structured. Classic. Minimal. Elegant. and Slightly Edgy. } (see this post for how to discover your style words!), and those combat boots, though edgy, didn't match my other style words - they were just too casual.

If you're feeling the same way, here's a list of three other booties I'll be wearing this season instead!

1) PEEP TOE BOOTIES

I have several pairs in my closet, since it doesn't really get cold here until early November. I think one of the things combat boots add to a look is visual interest, and I feel that the peep toe bootie replicates that, thanks to the cutouts that give lots of interesting shape and movement to the shoe.

Pro Tip: Pair them with jeans that show a little ankle - it adds even more visual shape to the shoe.

2) CHELSEA BOOTS

If you're looking for edge, look no further than the Chelsea. With that pointy, long toe, it's edginess personified. For me, these work well because they are more structured and classic than the combat boot.

Pro Tip: Pick one with interesting details, like buckles, belts, or multiple textures. They're a great way to make a statement.

3) SQUARE HEEL BOOTIES

One of the things that made the combat boot so alluring to me was that it made a loud statement. A square heeled bootie will do the same - you have to make a bit of noise when you wear them, which always makes me enter a room more confidently.

Pro Tip: pair them with a minimal, simple look. It let's the architecture of the heel really shine.

What's your favorite style to wear?
