TWIST ON PLAID

If you haven't been following along on Instagram (come join me!) - I'm in California right now! G and I packed up Evie and jetted off to So Cal for a visit with family and friends that included a trip to Disneyland on Friday (I grew up going there, and it's been a special place for G and I, so we couldn't wait to take Evie! We went with my parents, and it was a blast!), a BBQ with so many loved ones on Sunday, and a quick overnight getaway (our first without Evie!) to Ponte in celebration of our anniversary (extra special, since we got married there three years ago).

It's been a whirlwind, and as you're reading this, we're all hopping on an airplane and heading back to Texas.

Truth be told, I just can't get into Texas. I miss California every time we leave. Texas is where we live right now, but California is home, and I'll always be a California girl at heart.

Some things never change. And one of those things is my feelings about anything that tips too far on either side of the clothing scale. Let me explain:
I've never been one to embrace anything too trendy or traditional when it comes to my clothing. I like to be classic, not traditional, and timeless, not trendy. So when Fall rolls around, plaid isn't something you'll find me in unless it's special. And that leads me to talking about this top that I found at Francesca's!

I'm super into anything cropped that pairs well with my high-waisted Rag & Bone jeans right now (currently my favorite! They're on repeat so often over here), and this top isn't just cropped - it has the cutest opening in the back!

I paired it with this adorable Chloe-Look-Alike backpack, which is perfect for keeping everything together and hands free (a mama must!) and happens to be under $50.

The sweetheart neckline, open back, and perfectly dark washed skinnies keep my look timeless and classic instead of traditional and trendy, a perfect win in my book!

Some quick fit notes: Jeans and Top are TTS (I'm a 26 and an xs), and my old Vince booties are available in a few sizes here, but these new Vince booties are a gorgeous option as well, and available in all sizes (and are less than $50!).
