CALIFORNIA STYLE RW&B

I'm still figuring out what exactly Fourth of July means in H-town because its SO HOT, but in California it means BBQ, lazy lounging on a blanket in the grass, and a night full of fireworks. I think one of my favorite things about my home state, and a piece of it that permeates every part of my life, is the effortlessness. I try to carry that through not only in my lifestyle but also in my fashion, and that effortless vibe was the inspiration for this fourth of July look.

I've never been a big fan of dressing for holidays, so when it comes to July 4th, I like to color block my outfit, having each piece be one solid color. I think it adds a level of sophistication that I crave.

I love this blue cold shoulder top (old from Express a few years ago, but I've found some similar ones this season!). And you know that these distressed white shorts from Express are on constant rotation over here (wearing them as I write this!). At under $40, they're a steal!

On a normal day, I'd add a pop of yellow for some interest (my favorite statement neutral!), but since it's July 4th, I went with my red DVF bag. It's a small crossbody, so it holds everything I need for a day out while being easy to carry.

I chose my Elody platforms from Steve Madden because they add a fun summertime detail while being super comfortable and easy to run around in.

Finally, I polished off the look with my blue mirrored sunnies and some statement earrings.

All together, I think the look is fun, effortless, and completely holiday appropriate. The best part? All of these pieces are not holiday specific! So they will work well in your wardrobe throughout the warmer months.
