Wardrobes. Constantly shifting, always changing, and never full of anything we want to wear. While some may call this #firstworldproblems, we all know that #thestruggleisreal. Before getting married and moving to San Francisco, I had a TON of clothing, but was constantly frustrated because none of it was what I wanted to put on that morning. Before moving, I did some soul-searching (and closet staring) to figure out what I needed to do differently. To walk through that process with me, tune in tomorrow! I'll be re-launching my How to Build the Perfect Wardrobe series. In the mean time, let's talk about the results of that introspection.
One thing I discovered was that I had picked up tons of trend and statement pieces without investing in a core capsule of quality basics. So, Reader, here are my 7 basic pieces that should be at the core of every woman's wardrobe.
1) THE PERFECT T-SHIRT
A neutral tee that fits perfectly and can be dressed up or down is a must in every woman's closet. My tee of choice is the Whisper Cotton Jersey by Madewell. It's relaxed through the torso and fits just right on the arms. It's also super soft, which is a must in my book.
2) FLATTERING DENIM
We all know that the perfect jean makes us feel like we could rule the world. For me, the Guess Low-Rise Power Skinny is the perfect fit. It hugs all my curves without being uncomfortable, fits my waist like a dream, and the slight distressing gives me the edge I love.
3) A SIMPLE WATCH
We all know I don't wear a ton of jewelry, so I like the pieces I have to be classic, timeless, and versatile. I love my Guess Watch because of classic lines and the flirty smattering of crystals.
4) A VERSATILE DRESS
This is my go-to, throw on and look effortlessly put together piece. I love how feminine this Topshop dress from Nordstrom is, without crossing the line to frilly. It's chic and sexy without being trampy, and it looks amazing with any shoe from my favorite lace-up flats to a strappy heel for a night out.
5) STUNNING SUNNIES
Bags, shoes, and sunglasses are my splurge items for a good reason: they always fit, and they make even a Target dress look chic and expensive. As many of you know, I splurged on these Prada Sunnies this year, and I am in love. They make a statement without being loud.
6) COMFY FLATS
While I love a good heel as much as the next girl, a pair of chic, comfy flats is a necessity. I've been loving, wearing, and purchasing multiple colors of these Steve Madden shoes over the past 18 months, and imagine I will continue adding to my collection well into next year! (Fingers crossed they don't stop carrying them!!)
7) A MATCHED SET
Ladies. We all know that even when it's unseen, the perfect bra and panties make us feel all-powerful. I am loving the bralette trend, and keep snatching up this one and this one in different colors, along with their coordinated panties, of course!
Do you have anything you'd add to my list of basics?
