STYLING 101: ITS ALL IN THE SHOES

Top: Banana Republic | Shoes: Sam Edelman | Shorts: Express | Bag: Madewell |

Sunnies: Henri Bendel | Earrings: Baublebar

I'm always on the hunt for versatile pieces. Anything I can dress up or down is a win in my book, and when I found this Banana Republic top, I knew I had a winner. I love the ruffle detail, the one-shoulder, and the black and white stripes (see my post for picking timeless trend pieces like this one here).

What I didn't anticipate is just how simple it would be to completely transform my look from casual errands to date night with just a change of shoes! I wanted to share these two looks today because that's the only difference - the shoes - but that difference makes ALL the difference.

For the first look (the casual one), I went with my current favorite Sam Edelman slides. They're more chic than flip flops, and oh-so-comfortable. At under $40, they're the perfect summer flat to add to your closet.

To elevate the look (literally and figuratively!), I went with my favorite camel colored block heels from Express. They're comfortable enough to run around all night, and I love how versatile they are (you can wear them through just about every season, weather permitting).

Finally, let's chat briefly about the rest of the look! You all know I'm in LOVE with the shorts at Express this season, and I can't help but wear this high-waisted denim pair on repeat (less than $40!).

Statement earrings are huge this season, and while I'm not one to embrace bright colors or trends, I couldn't resist this tiered tassel set in yellow (I've said it before and I'll say it again: yellow is such a neutral statement color that I mix it in frequently!).

And I have to call attention to my gorgeous leather bag from Madewell. I just picked this up for my California trip, and I love it. It's roomy, smells amazing (who doesn't love genuine leather!?), and the round shape is so fun and different.
