SPRING CAPSULE WARDROBE

I can't believe it's finally here - the launch of my first real capsule wardrobe. I say real, because, unlike in the past, I'm actually living this one. I own all the items. I purchased a handful new after deciding what my closet lacked for the upcoming season, then paired down to 28 pieces. Just 28, including accessories and shoes. I mean, who am I?! Since this is my first seasonal capsule, I want to break down a few thoughts, answer a few questions, and (preemptively) invite you to follow me on Instagram, since that's where much of my daily interaction with these pieces will take place.
WHY CREATE A CAPSULE WARDROBE?
I can only answer for myself: I had too many options, and it was leading to indecision and feeling trapped by the quantity of clothes I had stuffed into our already tiny space combined with my desperate need to buy more since I had nothing to wear. I have to admit, I was afraid at first: afraid that I would feel trapped, stifled, and underwhelmed by my lack of choices if I paired down even further. Instead what I've found is reclaimed time and a feeling of freedom since it's so much easier to select clothing that's appropriate for the day's activities from just a handful of items.
HOW DO I PREPARE TO CREATE SOMETHING I'LL ACTUALLY LOVE?
I strongly suggest you read my BUILDING THE PERFECT WARDROBE series (linked in the sidebar) before starting on your capsule. Understanding the different aspects of your style personality will make it easier to incorporate pieces you love, and help you create something you don't get bored with over the next few months. After you've done that, shop your closet and make a list of things you want, trends you'd like to try, and items that are worn out/need to be replaced. From there, figure out a budget for those new items and have some fun shopping!!
HOW MUCH SHOULD BE NEW VS HOW MUCH SHOULD BE SHOPPED FROM MY OWN CLOSET?
It's really up to you, and definitely depends on how many staples need replacing. For me, I did around 80% from my closet, and purchased a handful of missing staple and statement pieces. Since I know someone will ask, what I purchased was my new packable hat, the black sandals, light wash straight jeans, striped trousers, and a graphic tee.
WHY ARE ALL YOUR ACCESSORIES SO EXPENSIVE?
I get this question so often that I wanted to be sure and address it here! For me, accessories are the backbone to any outfit. They set the tone, add the flare, and make even jeans and a t-shirt upscale. Not to mention they always fit and, if properly cared for, will literally last a lifetime. As a result, I tend to invest more of my clothing budget into shoes, sunglasses and handbags than any other item. That being said, I know not everybody wants to, or can, spend on designer items, so I will also share the "look for less" when I post the pricier pieces.
Now, without further ado, here's my Spring 2019 Capsule Wardrobe! Let me know if you have any questions, if there's something you want to see... anything really! I'm excited to interact with you all through this process.
