So it's a little late, but I'm finally getting around to writing about the books I read in March. I absolutely loved both these reads, and hope some of you read along with me! (If not, I highly suggested you pick up both. They are amazing).
EDUCATIONAL
I started this book at the suggestion of my mom friend and fellow blogger Rebecca of Fashion and my Fellows, and it was SO GOOD y'all. If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw snippets of the pages in my stories as different parts of the book impacted me. One of my biggest struggles as a wife, mom, business owner, friend, and person who needs some space sometime, somehow, somewhere to care for themselves too is not feeling like all my priorities are competing and that someone or something is always being pushed to the wayside (whew). No matter how much I do, I always feel like I'm failing at something. Enter One Beautiful Dream, where Jennifer shares her journey as a self-employed mother of 1, no wait 2... 3...4... 5... it just keeps going! At the beginning, she feels just as overwhelmed and at a loss going from one to two children as I feel with Evie. But, as the book evolves, so does Jennifer and her outlook on life. Some key takeaways for me were:
1) We weren't meant to do it alone, and that's why we struggle to do it all when we are alone. Let people help you, and hire help when you can.
2) The work you are called to do isn't something separate and apart from everything else. It's part of a symphony. When we unite with our family and bring them into our work, everything changes. Learn to move in unity with your family and your work, and you will find joy.
3) We will struggle, but we're not alone and we don't have to do it in our own strength (Colossians 1:29)
Did I convince you yet? I laughed, I cried, and I had my perspective radically shift when it comes to work/life balance. Loved it.
JUST FOR FUN

The magic. The mystery. A forbidden love. A tragic loss. It's all of these elements that make The Night Circus such a beautiful, seductive story. I would say more, but I don't want to give anything away. If you live for a good love story, an immersive world, and exceptional character development, this book is for you.

I'm looking forward to reading Social by Matthew D. Lieberman as my educational book. It explores the research behind our hard-wired need to connect, and with social media giving us so much opportunity to connect superficially, I think this read on why it's important to develop deep, in person relationships is going to be so interesting! I'm also planning to devour an old favorite again - Dracula by Bram Stoker. I hope you decide to join me!
