If you’re anything like our family, not much beats getting outside & soaking up the gorgeous Southern California weather. It’s the primary reason we love living in So Cal, and one of the things we were most excited to have Evie experience. We spend a good deal of time in our backyard and at the park, but sometimes we want to explore a little more. Thankfully, there are so many places to get in a good hike or a long walk near us, and while we’ve only been in LA for a handful of months, we’ve already found a few favorites! Keep reading for details on some of our current favorite places, along with our secret for getting in a good, long hike with Evie!

1. THE HUNTINGTON GARDENS & LIBRARY

While the art collection here has always been one of my favorites, we didn’t really explore the gardens until we became Los Angeles locals. They have such a wide variety of plants, and each garden has its own lovely aesthetic. Our current favorite is the Japanese garden – climb to the top and you’ll get the most stunning views, and some amazing food.

2. LOS ANGELES ARBORETUM

The LA Arboretum is unique for one very special reason: it houses an amazing collection of native plants, laid out in a way that creates a fantastic visitor experience. And, with 127 acres to explore, you can discover something new each time you visit.

3. GRIFFITH PARK

If you’re looking for less cultivated and more hiking, this is the perfect place! Over 4,000 acres of natural chaparral and landscaped picnic/park areas means that you can make your adventure as long or short as you please before setting up a blanket and enjoying a post-hike snack.

One of the things we have to consider now that we have Evie is how far her legs can carry her. While she loves a good run, she often gets tired before we’re finished with our hike. Thankfully we found the perfect solution: Chicco’s SmartSupport Backpack Carrier. Evie loves riding in this carrier, and for good reason! The padded seat is adjustable so your little one can be comfortable as they grow, and it comes with a sunshade canopy so Evie can stay nice and cool. We love this carrier because it has generously padded shoulder straps, great lumbar support, and a super lightweight aluminum frame that folds flat, making it easy to transport in my little coupe. The SmartSupport Backpack Carrier is available for $129.99 on ChiccoUSA.com!
