5 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT EXPECT ABOUT G AND I

I love the new year. It's so intrinsically a time for reflection that you feel like you're constantly discovering and re-discovering things for the first few weeks. I took about 3 weeks off to spend time reflecting, and thought it would be fun to start off 2020 with something of an introduction! Since many of you have been with me since the beginning (2014-ers, where you at?!), I decided to go about it with a twist! So here are five things you might not expect about Gabriel and I.
1. I'M THE HANDY ONE
I'm going to be honest here - and while he would cringe, G would agree - I simply have more patience when it comes to detail work. Especially if the project isn't going according to plan. G's response? Pound it into submission (and, more often than not, brokenness). Mine? Step back, analyze, problem solve, try new solution. Repeat until objective is achieved. I think it's the scientist in me. Regardless, I spend more time with our power tools than he does ;)
2. I ASKED G OUT
We met on eHarmony, and after several weeks of communicating, G went silent! I was still very curious about him (y'all, he had essentially uploaded is job resume as his profile - but somehow that appealed to the organized go-getter in me) so I sent a casual "hey, if you've found someone, great, but if not, we should at least grab a coffee before we decide we're not interested". Fortunately, my husband is a very reasonable man, and my rational request struck a cord with him. We grabbed coffee the next week, he locked down date number 2 that night, and we've been together ever since! (Bonus: now you know where the "coffee" part of the blog name started!).
3. G'S THE LOVER. I'M THE FIGHTER.
When it comes down to it, G will always use relationship and communication to get through a difficult spot. I, on the other hand, have two black belts and struggle with intimacy in many ways. Hieeee-YA!
4. G'S THE SOFTY
After No. 3, this probably doesn't surprise you, but G is such a sweetheart. It shows in most areas of his life, but it's especially prevalent in his relationship with our daughter Evelyn (Evie). Daddy will bend the rules, be almost ridiculously lenient, and even faux-sneak with her behind mommy's back. I, on the other hand, tend to be fairly strict and structured.
5. NEITHER G NOR I WORK IN OUR ORIGINAL JOB FIELDS
G started as a construction worker (roofing specifically), and I was an analytical water chemist. Now he runs the west coast operations for a national marketing and advertising firm, and I run S&C. It's amazing where the Lord can take you in a decade.
That's it! I hope you had fun getting to know a little bit more about us, and welcome to 2020. I can't wait to see where this next decade takes us!
