3 TIPS FOR SHOPPING YOUR OWN CLOSET THIS VALENTINE'S DAY

For me, Valentine's Day is always so much fun. I love having an excuse to be cheesy and just revel in the emotions of our relationship with G. One thing I don't like is trying to find a good holiday outfit though. It's such a specific holiday - hearts, love, red and pink - that you can feel pressure to go out and purchase something that you'll actually only wear once (because, let's face it - who wants to wear the same Valentine's Day outfit year after year?). Since this year we want our $$ to go elsewhere (hello new car, new windows for the house, and a yard that has grass in it), I decided to shop my own closet for Valentine's Day! I'll be sharing several options on Instagram over the next few weeks, and today I'm sharing the three tips I used to find my looks!

1. LOOK FOR THINGS THAT FIT INTO THE COLOR SCHEME (RED, WHITE AND PINK)

Trust me. Throw it all on the bed. Anything red, white, or pink that you have. You want to see what all your options are. I would even grab some accessories. Handbags, shoes, pearl hair clips...get it all. You'll feel the most inspired when you see what you have that can mix and match.

2. CHOOSE A FEW STYLE WORDS AND SELECT PIECES THAT FIT WITH THEM

This is key to narrowing the pile down to a few items that will actually work. Are you going out at night, or doing something fun during the day? What's the weather like? Are you wanting to be cute? Edgy? Sexy? Playful? Find pieces that match those words. From there, fill out your look with staple items (i.e. A good pair of jeans. Your favorite black midi skirt. Those black heels that go with everything. You know what your staples are).

3. ADD SOMETHING SENTIMENTAL

This final touch will make you feel Valentine's Day even if the rest of your outfit doesn't scream it. For me, I have a handful of really sentimental items that come to mind right away: my love ring, my Mother/Daughter bracelet, my wedding necklace, my wedding shoes, and my wedding handbag. I pulled from a few of these items to add the finishing touches to my otherwise fairly standard look and make it something really special.

BONUS: If you really want to add something new, try an affordable accessory! I found so many fun options, including some heart sunnies, fun handbags, and even earrings! You can shop them right below. Everything is under $40, and most of it is under $20!

I want to see what you guys come up with! Hop on IG, share your outfit to your stories, and tag me @simplicityandcoffee ! I'll even feature some of you throughout the week as inspiration for others!
